Project: ZX4500A driveway turntable
Diameter: 4.5-meter
Top surface: Aluminum alloy
Location: Laguna Beach, CA, USA
Finished year: 2006
In 2006, Shenyang Weizhong Revolving Machinery pioneered a landmark fusion of engineering and design with the installation of America’s first driveway turntable in Laguna Beach, California. This 4.5-meter aluminum alloy structure, perched on a mountainside overlooking the Pacific Ocean, addressed the challenges of a narrow, steep driveway while harmonizing with its breathtaking coastal surroundings. Central to its success was the debut of Shenyang Weizhong’s proprietary Pin-Gear drive system—marking the technology’s inaugural export to the U.S.
The turntable’s innovative Pin-Gear mechanism replaced traditional gear systems with an arrangement of interlocking pins and rotating plates, optimizing torque distribution for smooth, quiet, and energy-efficient rotation. This precision engineering allowed vehicles to pivot 360 degrees effortlessly, eliminating hazardous reversing on tight curves. The system’s compact, low-friction design integrated seamlessly into the turntable’s sleek frame, preserving the home’s unobstructed ocean views and minimalist aesthetic.
Durability was paramount for the coastal environment. The aluminum alloy surface resisted corrosion from salty air, while the Pin-Gear system’s rigorously tested materials ensured longevity. As Shenyang Weizhong’s first U.S. project, it showcased China’s capacity to deliver cutting-edge industrial solutions to global markets, earning acclaim for blending technical ingenuity with environmental sensitivity.
Beyond solving spatial constraints, the turntable symbolized cross-border innovation. By introducing their homegrown Pin-Gear technology to American luxury infrastructure, Shenyang Weizhong bridged international engineering standards with practical residential needs. The project redefined hillside living, proving that advanced mechanics could enhance both safety and aesthetics without compromising nature’s grandeur. Today, it stands as a testament to visionary design—where a rotating platform quietly revolutionizes accessibility, turning logistical challenges into opportunities for harmony between human innovation and the environment.
